Katy's shopping scene divides into four distinct districts, and knowing which one you are heading to saves real time. Katy Mills is the indoor outlet mall with roughly 175 stores. LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch is the open-air, Main Street-style center built around a central green. Katy Grand is the dining-and-movies complex at I-10 and the Grand Parkway. And Old Town Katy is the historic district of boutiques and antique shops. This guide covers each one with verified details, addresses and links, plus what each district means for where you choose to live.

Katy Mills: the indoor outlet mall

Katy Mills is the anchor of the area's retail scene: a one-story, climate-controlled indoor outlet and value shopping center about 25 miles west of downtown Houston off I-10. It opened on October 28, 1999, and is now owned and managed by Simon Property Group, which lists the mall at 175+ stores. The retail space totals roughly 1.3 million square feet, so this is a full-day outing, not a quick stop.

The tenant mix spans outlet brands and value retailers: Nike Factory Store, Coach Outlet, Kate Spade and Michael Kors sit alongside Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Burlington, Books-A-Million, Marshalls, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Ross Dress for Less and Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, with a movie theater on site. The address is 5000 Katy Mills Circle, Katy, TX 77494. Store hours and tenant lists change through the year, so check the official Katy Mills page before you plan a trip.

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch: the Main Street-style center

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch is the opposite experience: an open-air, mixed-use center at 23501 Cinco Ranch Boulevard, where Grand Parkway (Highway 99) meets Cinco Ranch Boulevard. It opened on March 1, 2007, and spans about 34 acres with roughly 273,500 square feet of retail plus office space, all arranged around a tree-lined Central Green that hosts concerts and community events.

The shopping mix leans national and lifestyle: lululemon, Sephora, Athleta, Lovesac and Warby Parker, with H-E-B and Trader Joe's as the grocery anchors and Alamo Drafthouse and Flix Brewhouse for movies. Dining runs from Chick-fil-A to Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizza, Postino and North Italia. The center's own site, lacenterra.com, keeps the current tenant list and event calendar. LaCenterra sits inside the Cinco Ranch master-planned community; for a deeper look at the community itself, Living in Cinco Ranch covers it in full.

Katy Grand: dinner, a movie and a parking garage

Katy Grand Square, at the northeast corner of I-10 and Grand Parkway (23330 Grand Circle Blvd, Katy, TX 77450), is the newer dining-and-entertainment destination on the corridor. It holds roughly 38 stores and restaurants plus a 19-screen Cinemark with reclining seats, and it is served by a six-level METRO parking garage with about 1,727 spaces, which is worth knowing on a busy Friday night. This is the spot families pair with a Katy Mills visit, since the two sit on opposite corners of the same interchange.

Mason Park and the everyday centers

Day-to-day errands cluster in neighborhood centers across greater Katy. Mason Park Shopping Center at 501 S Mason Road (77450) is anchored by 99 Ranch Market and Petco, with Mason Village Shopping Center right next door for quick stops like Jason's Deli, El Pollo Loco and Freebirds. Farther south, Katy Main Street is an 85-acre mixed-use center at Pin Oak and I-10 anchored by H-E-B. And Katy Asian Town, anchored by H Mart, is covered in detail in the Katy dining guide, since its food halls are the main draw.

Old Town Katy: boutiques and antiques in the historic district

For a slower, walkable shopping afternoon, Old Town Katy is the place: the historic district around Second Street and Avenue C in the City of Katy, where antique and specialty shops line the restored blocks. Regulars include Limited Edition Art and Antiques, Southern Historical Antiques, Dovetail Antiques, Silver Wings Antiques, Wildflower Threads and Harvest Plaza, and the district is at its liveliest on Katy Market Day weekends and during the holiday festival season. The Old Town history post tells the district's story, and the What's happening page keeps the market and festival dates current.

What shopping tells you about where to live

The geography of these districts matters more than you might expect. Old Town is inside the incorporated City of Katy (77493). Katy Mills, LaCenterra and Katy Grand are in the unincorporated greater Katy area (77494 and 77450), and a "Katy" postal address does not mean a home is inside city limits. Buyers who want a short drive to a specific center should look at neighborhoods on the right side of town: communities near Grand Lakes and the Mason Road corridor sit close to Mason Park, areas around Cinco Ranch Boulevard feed LaCenterra, and the I-10/Grand Parkway interchange puts Katy Mills and Katy Grand minutes away. The community guides, the community comparison post and the moving to Katy guide walk through each neighborhood, and the lifestyle page keeps the full verified list of restaurants, parks and shopping.
