Life in Katy: parks, pools, dining and Old Town

Katy lifestyle is a mix of serious amenity living and small-town tradition: master-planned lakes and trails, a county park system, a brewery row in the old rail district, and the festivals that fill Historic Town Square. Every business listed here is real, with its own website; every listing is captioned. Here is where residents actually spend their weekends.

Parks and trails

Public parks in Katy are split between the City of Katy parks system, Harris County Precinct 4 and Fort Bend County, plus the private amenity networks of each master-planned community.

Pools and water

Katy summers are long, and the area plans for them: a county aquatic center, community pools in every master plan, and one of the region’s biggest water parks.

Dining and coffee

Katy dining runs from Tex-Mex institutions to Vietnamese, Mediterranean, Asian market halls and a growing independent coffee scene in Old Town.

Shopping

Katy is a retail region in its own right, anchored by one of Texas’ largest outlet malls, an open-air lifestyle center and daily-needs retail across the master plans.

Breweries and nightlife

The old railway district around First, Second and Third Streets has become Katy’s brewery row, now joined by newcomers along Westheimer.

Family fun

Beyond pools and parks, Katy packs family entertainment into a small radius, from water parks and karting to museums and trampoline parks.

The calendar

When the whole area shows up

The lifestyle calendar peaks around Old Town: the Katy Rice Harvest Festival each October, Katy Market Day most first Saturdays, and the Old-Fashioned Christmas Festival in early December. Six Flags-caliber acts play the festival stage, and the city square fills with food trucks, vendors and a parade. Every date on our calendar is verified with an organizer; see the What's Happening page for what is next.
